Securely Wipe Data on your Blackberry

Warning
The following procedures will delete all data, or all data and applications on the BlackBerry device. Back up the data before you perform these procedures.
If you have turned on content protection, the process for deleting all the data on the BlackBerry device can take up to an hour to complete.
Do not remove the battery from the BlackBerry device while data is being deleted.
 Procedure
To delete all the data, choose one of the following methods:

  1. Select the Wipe Handheld option.
  2. Type an incorrect password ten times.
  3. Use the application loader tool of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager to delete all data.
  4. Use the backup and restore tool of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager to clear the application databases.

To clear all the data and applications, open the application loader tool of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager type an incorrect password ten times.

Select the Wipe Handheld Option
To delete all the data on your BlackBerry device, complete the following steps. This option is available with BlackBerry Device Software 3.8 and later.

  1. On the BlackBerry device Home screen, click Options.
  2. If you are running BlackBerry Device Software 4.1 or later, click Security Options > General Settings. Otherwise, click Security.
  3. Display the menu and select Wipe Handheld.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Type blackberry. All the data on the BlackBerry device is deleted.

Type an Incorrect Password
To delete all the data on your BlackBerry device, lock the BlackBerry device, then type an incorrect password ten times. During this process you may be prompted to type blackberry a few times. Once completed, all data on the BlackBerry device is deleted.

Note: You must have a password set up on your BlackBerry device in order to perform this task.

Use the Application Loader Tool to Delete All Data
To delete all the data on your BlackBerry device, complete the following steps:

  1. Connect your BlackBerry device to the computer running BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  2. In BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader.
  3. In the Application Loader Wizard window, click Next.
  4. On the Device Security Password screen, type your BlackBerry device security password. Click Next.
  5. On the Device Application Selection screen, click Next.
  6. On the Completing the Application Loader Wizard screen, click Advanced. The Device Data Preservation screen is displayed.
  7. To delete all application data on the BlackBerry device, select the Erase all application data check box. Click Next.
  8. Select the option beside Do not automatically back up and restore the device application data during the loading process. Click Next.
  9. Click Finish. The BlackBerry device resets. This might take several minutes.

Use the Backup and Restore Tool to Clear the Application Databases
To clear the application databases on your BlackBerry device, complete the following steps:

  1. Connect your BlackBerry device to the computer running BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  2. In BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Backup and Restore.
  3. Click Advanced.
  4. Press and hold the Shift key while selecting all the databases in the Handheld Databases list box.
  5. Click Clear.
  6. Click OK on the Warning window. All application databases on the BlackBerry device are erased.

Type an Incorrect Password in the Application Loader Tool
To delete all the data and applications on your BlackBerry device, complete the following steps:

  1. Connect your BlackBerry device to the computer running BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  2. In BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader.
  3. In the Application Loader Wizard window, click Next.
  4. On the Device Security Password screen, type an incorrect password and click Next. Perform this step ten times.
  5. Click Close. Without software the BlackBerry device is unresponsive. It displays device error 507.
  6. Re-install the BlackBerry Device Software by opening the application loader tool and selecting the applications you want to install.
